Man holds nephew, 6, hostage

JUBAN, Sorsogon—A hostage-taking incident which lasted for almost five hours yesterday ended with the arrest of the suspect.

Police said that the incident began at around 7:35 A.M. in the residence of Lea Ehi Gloriane, 31 years old, at Barangay South Poblacion, this town.

The hostage-taker, who was identified as 33-year-old laborer Eugenio Gloriane y Labitag, while armed with a knife, took hostage his 6-year-old nephew and tied him up inside the house.

The police, along with Reline Arellano, Administrative Assistant III of the Office of the Mayor Juban Sorsogon, immediately engaged negotiations with the hostage-taker.

At around 12:30 P.M., the police were able to apprehend the suspect.

They recovered from his possession an ice pick and a bolo.

Meantime, they also rescued the victim, who was found without injuries on his body.

The minor has been turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Women and Children Protection Desk for counselling.

The suspect is now facing a complaint for Serious Illegal Detention in relation to Republic Act 7610 at the Sorsogon Provincial Police Office.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
