Escaped mental patient hurt in road mishap

PILI, Camarines Sur-- A psychiatric patient, who authorities say escaped from a nearby hospital, was injured in a road mishap predawn Monday (January 27).

Police identified the victim as Denver Delos Santos y Estefona, 19 yrs old, single, and a resident of Aldezar, Sipocot, this province.

Santos was reportedly confined at the Don Susano J. Rodriguez Memorial Mental Hospital, but managed to flee. 

According to authorities, Santos was hit by a white Mitsubishi Canter Truck, with Plate Number EBT724, along Maharlika Highway in Brgy. Palestina, here,  at about 3:20 AM. 

The truck's driver was identified by police as Dande Padrigone y Afante, 36 yrs old, married, a resident of ParaƱaque City, and a bearer of a Professional Driver’s License.

Initial police investigation reveals that Santos was hit by the northbound truck, after he suddenly crossed the road.  

Elements of the Pili Police Station  assigned along the junction road in Brgy. Cadlan immediately rendered police assistance to the victim.  

The patient, who sustained multiple injuries, was brought to the Bicol Medical Center in Naga City for medical treatment.
