UPDATE: 2 Daraga hostages stabbed, not choked by fire smoke

DARAGA, Albay—Two of the six fatalities in the grim hostage-taking incident here died due to stab wounds, according to the death certificates released today.

Said death certificates were in turn based on the findings of the medico-legal officer who conducted the autopsy on the bodies of the victims.

The result runs contrary to initial police report which said that all victims died by asphyxiation from inhaling the smoke from the fire sparked by the hostage taker.

The two victims who were stabbed to death were Angeline Protestante y Loterina, 22, and Jovic Luna y Andes, 27.

It will be recalled that on December 20, a man identified as Ruel Molina, of Tiwi, Alba, took several persons hostage in  Purok 1, Barangay Kimantong, here.

Molina removed the hosepipe of the open gas tank,  directly pointed it to another burner, and then lit it up. This resulted to an explosion which caused a fire.
