Mayon on Alert level 2, says PHIVOLCS

LEGAZPI CITY--Mayon Volcano's alert status has been raised to Level 2, PHIVOLCS stated in its bulletin today.

This means that magma has most likely intruded at depth and that current conditions could eventually lead to a larger eruption.

The public is strongly advised to be vigilant and to desist from entering the six (6) kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) to minimize risks from sudden explosions, rock fall and landslides.

Cam Norte cop foils holdup attempt

DAET, Camarines Norte--A policewoman averted a holdup attempt in front of SM Hypermart in this town earlier this week.

PSupt Paul Florendo Abay, Daet Municipal Station Chief of Police said that while PO1 Marian Rasco Guinto was manning her post at around 7:45 in the evening, suspect Normandy Sarto y Esquivel approached victim Jesus Gerrard Pineda y Perez with a six-inch ice pick.

The suspect poked the victim's side with the ice pick and tried to grab his valuables.

PO1 Guinto immediately responded to the incident.

With the help of several bystanders, she arrested the suspect and recovered the ice pick.

Sarto was identified as a 36-year-old resident of Dupax St., Barangay V, this town.

Meanwhile, the victim is a 22-year-old resident of Purok 1, Barangay IV.

An attempted robbery complaint against the suspect has been filed at the Provincial Prosecution Office through and inquest proceeding under NPS-09-INQ-141-01489 with bail of Php 5,000.

The suspect is now detained at the Daet Municipal Police Station.--BICOLSTANDARD.COM

Enchong Dee tells Bicolanos: 'Don't you worry, I will be there'

NAGA CITY--Nagueño actor Enchong Dee promised Bicolanos that his meet and greet event will be rescheduled soon.

In a video shared by television station Jeepney TV, Dee thanked supporters who joined a contest in which winners would be able to meet the actor during his homecoming here.

Dee's flight was cancelled as tropical storm Luis and the southwest monsoon brought rains over the region this weekend.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN reporter Jonathan Magistrado posted on his social media account that ABS-CBN's Kapamilya Karavan has been postponed until further notice.

#LuisPH: Signal no. 1 raised in Catanduanes, trips cancelled

NAGA CITY—Public storm warning signal number 1 has been hoisted over Catanduanes as of 11:00 this morning, PAGASA announced.

The state weather bureau reported that tropical storm Luis has intensified while moving towards the Cagayan-Isabela area.

The storm’s center is located 456 km east of Virac.

The combined effect of tropical storm Luis and the southwest monsoon will bring light and moderate rains to the region this weekend, PAGASA added.

The OCD-RDRRMC has thus suspended all sea travel to and from Catanduanes to ensure the safety of passengers.

Over social media, DOTC said that the following flights have been cancelled as of this afternoon: 2P-2925 MNL-Legazpi, 2P-2926 Legazpi-MNL, 5J-323 MNL-Legazpi,5J-324 Legazpi-MNL, 5J-521 MNL-Naga,and 5J-522 Naga-MNL.

Some 200 passengers are also stranded at the Tabaco, Albay port, according to the Philippine Ports Authority.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM

Bicolanos living in Los Angeles in the United States are celebrating the 40th Peñafrancia Fiesta this year.

Organizer United Bicolandia Los Angeles (UBLA) announced that festivities will start September 12, 5 p.m. at the the Immaculate of Mary Church, 4954 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90029.

A nightly novena mass follows from September 12 to 19 at 6 p.m. and culminates on September 20, 2014 (Saturday) with the ninth day of the novena.

On said date, there will be a foot and fluvial procession at 9 a.m. and a concelebrated mass at 10 a.m. at Lincoln Park, 3501 Valley Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90031.

The main celebrant will be Cardinal Roger Mahony.

On Saturday, September 27, the group will hold a post fiesta bash and fellowship night at the Hotel Radisson Midtown LA at USC.

NAGA CITY--A graduate of Sorsogon State College notched the first place in the recent Registered Master Electrician Board.

Gift Joy Huab Dugayo scored 88% in the exams.

Meanwhile, nine other Bicolanos garnered scores that were among the ten highest places.

In third place is James Patrick Serrano Madrid of the Divine Word College of Legazpi, with a score of 87%.

Gumalaw, Gumanda, Gumwapo: Albay dances its way to health

LEGAZPI CITY--In line with its aggressive stance to promote a healthy lifestyle, the Provincial Government of Albay has stepped up its campaign to promote good health with its officials and employees coming up with a healthy lifestyle promotion advocacy program which includes a variety of different health services and activities.

The program, to be conducted by the Provincial Health Office, offers three services and activities that are designed to develop and encourage good health in various aspects of the human body.

One such activity is the Dance Exercise Program, also called as 3Gs for Gumalaw, Gumanda, Gumwapo, which will be held every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30 to 5:30 in the afternoon at the Penaranda Park and led by the APHO Hataw Team.

The APHO will also be conducting monthly diet counseling with a nutritionist-dietician every 2nd Wednesday of the month from 1:30 to 4:30 pm at the Capitol Lobby.

For officials and employees looking for medical, dental and skin clinic services, they may proceed to the Albay Health and Skin Clinic at Rizal Street, Legazpi City.

Medical and skin clinic services are available from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, while dental services are available on Wednesdays and Fridays at the same hours.

In a memo, Governor Joey Sarte Salceda enjoined all of the officials and employees of the PGA to avail the said services and participate in the activities to be able to enjoy the many benefits that the programs will surely provide. (PIO-Albay)

Security beefed up for Traslacion—Sr. Supt. Escobal

NAGA CITY—PNP City Director Senior Supt. Filmore Escobal assured pilgrims that the members of the PNP will be highly visible at the Traslacion today as people flock to Naga for the annual procession.

Already, there are an addition 600 members of the PNP who have been deployed in the area, on top of the 400-plus officers who are assigned in the Naga City Police Office, Escobal said.

As of 11:00 AM, the composite team of peace officers are at their designated assignments throughout the city of Naga.

Public Safety Office employees and barangay tanods are now posted at strategic locations.

Meanwhile, police cars and ambulances are now parked major streets to provide assistance to devotees.

Apart from ground security, aerial support with the use of a helicopter is available.

For this week, more than a million people are expected to visit Naga City for the fiesta.
