After a long surveillance operation and gathering of tips from informants, joint elements of Naga City Police Office and Bula Municipal Police Station tracked the location of a number of reportedly carnapped motorcycles, along with several disassembled parts.

Ragay police nab husband-wife drug suspects

As promised, town mayor Ricky Aquino is imposing a relentless drive against criminals in this town.

Yesterday, police operatives of this municipality served a search warrant at the residence of spouses Fredie Loremia y Jarabejo, 55 years old, and Susan Aquino-Loremia, 48 years old, residents of Zone 2, Barangay Apad in this town.

Aquino-Loremia is the aunt of Mayor Aquino.

Police found in the spouse's possession seven sachets containing a substance believed to be shabu, some aluminum foil rolls, and two bundles of plastic sachets which are commonly used in repacking the illegal substance.

The husband-wife team has been the subject of a long surveillance operation by the Ragay Police, the report added.

Meanwhile, in an interview, Mayor Aquino said: "We will not leave any stone unturned until we get rid of this social menace."

Aquino lamented that the suspect is a relative, but he remains firm in his campaign to bring to justice anyone who violates the law.

BREAKING: Riding-in-tandem guns down former brgy. kagawad candidate

NAGA CITYPolice operatives here are still establishing the motive behind the brutal killing of Ricardo "Dado" Moral of Queborac, Bagumbayan Sur at around 9:00 this morning.

Crime scene of the Ricardo "Dado" Moral murder
(PHOTO: OSCAR ESMENDA/BICOL STANDARD)
Witnesses said that one of the suspects went to Nora's Eatery, which is owned by the victim, at about 8:30 AM. Said suspect reportedly ordered food.

Meanwhile, his companion arrived a little later. Said person, seeing that the victim was serving the food, pulled out his .45 caliber pistol and shot at him.

The suspects immediately fled after the incident using a motorcycle. They were headed in the direction of Barangay Liboton.

Meanwhile, Moral was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

It will be recalled that the victim was a candidate for barangay kagawad during the last local election in this barangay. He is also known in the community to have connections with the operations of illegal activities such as jueteng and the now-popular STL, which is a cover for jueteng.

Investigators, however, would not yet confirm if his death is due to the prohibited numbers game, or a result of a personal grudge. (With reports from Boyet Paderes, Ron-Ron Enon, Oscar Esmenda, Bong Cea/BBS-DWLV)

BREAKING: RTC CNorte is now hearing Mayor Ang's petition for injunction

Vinzons Mayor Agnes Diezmo-Ang
Photo: Vinzons Camarines Norte Facebook Account
DAET, CNorte – A petition for certiorari, prohibition and mandamus, with prayer for the issuance of temporary restraining order is currently being heard in the sala of RTC Judge Arniel Dating of Branch 41 in connection with the 60-day suspension order against Vinzons  town mayor Agnes Ang.

It will be recalled that last March 3, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Camarines Norte approved a resolution recommending the suspension of the said town executive, after a complaint was filed against her by businessman Gabriel Cereno.

The said complaint stemmed from a controversy regarding the issuance of two permits to operate a cockpit in this municipality. Cereno maintained that this is a patent violation of PD 449, otherwise known as the Cockfighting Decree.

What exacerbated the resolution of the administrative complaint was the alleged attitude of Atty. Roberto Santos, the lawyer who represented Ang, in the hearing conducted by the Sangguniang Panlungsod. Allegedly, majority of the members of the SP were slighted when Santos made it appear during the deliberation that they are ignorant or do not know how to handle administrative cases.

DENR tags, frees sea turtles in Sorsogon

DENR Sorsogon headed by PENRO Rene Camacho together with Protected Areas, Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management Sector (PAWCZMS) Division Chief, PIO Annabelle M. Barquilla and other DENR Provincial Office’s personnel tagged three (3) hawksbills and one (1) green sea turtle on February 27, 2014. The same group released them on February 28, 2014 into the seawaters of Brgy. Caricaran, Bacon District, Sorsogon City.

The four (4) marine turtles were recovered by the DENR Provincial PAWCZMS from the residents of Brgy. Abuyog, Sorsogon City.

DENR continuously calls on the public not to domesticate these animals. Instead, they should be turned over the authorities who can release them to their natural habitat.

The release, it was noted, coincided with the DENR Bicol People’s Day activity.

DENR RED Gilbert Gonzales said that the DENR’s continuous information and education campaign is paying off, as the public turns over to their office an increasing number of marine wildlife. (PIA/DENR)

DepEd Bicol needs 2,383 teachers

Before April 1, the Department of Education Regional Office V aims to hire 2,382 teachers who will man the Teacher I position. 1,138 of these vacant positions are for the elementary level (Grades I to VI), while 1,245 are for the secondary level (Grades VII and VIII, and YR III and IV).

DepEd Bicol needs 2,383 teachers
Already, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released a total of P9.52 billion from the Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Fund (MPBF) in the 2014 General Appropriations Act (GAA). The said amount will cover the funding requirement for the 31,335 teachers needed nationwide.

“Hiring more teachers is essential to the Administration’s goal of improving the teacher-to-student ratio in our education system. For a long time, Philippine public schools were crippled by a shortage of teachers who can amply guide our schoolchildren in their academic pursuits,” Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad said.

DepEd has set standards to determine teacher requirements for different levels of education, such as setting the Teacher-Pupil Ratio of one teacher for an ideal number of students per class: For Kindergarten, the ideal ratio is 1 teacher to 25-35 students; elementary multigrade (different levels in one classroom): 1 teacher for less than 30 students (Grades I-II, III-IV, V-VI), elementary monograde (one level per classroom): 1 teacher for 40-50 students for Grades I-II; 1 teacher for 45-55 students for Grades III-IV; 1 teacher for 45-55 students for Grades V-VIII; and 1 teacher for 45-55 students for Secondary Level Years III-IV.
