Isla Sison drug raid detainees named

The Naga City Police Office, via Senior Supt. Jose Lipa Capinpin, has released the list of 22 detainees who were arrested in yesterday's raid of three drug dens in Sitio Sagrada Familia, formerly Isla Sison, Zone 5A Penafrancia Naga City.

As the list indicates, 16 out of the 22 suspects are from Naga City; four from the town of Calabanga; and one each from the towns of Bombon, Camaligan, and Canaman.

The youngest among the group is 18-year-old Jay-Ar Mabait y Perilla while the eldest is 50-year-old Juancho Uy y Pardo.

One of the suspects, Randy Alegre, who is also from Naga City, is still at large.

Seized items

Along with the list of detainees, the police provided a list of the items that were confiscated in the three drug dens.

Among the items were plastic sachets containing a white substance believed to be metamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, dried marijuana leaves, improvised aluminum foil tooters, lighters, and cash.

The confiscated items will be turned over to the Camarines Sur Provincial Crime Laboratory Office in Naga City for examination.

Meanwhile, the authorities are now preparing the necessary documents for filing before the Office of the City Prosecutor. (With report from Oscar Esmenda)

Fire consumes Sorsogon National High School main building

The main building of Sorsogon National High School at barangay Almendras-Cogon, Sorsogon City was razed by fire last night.

According to the information received by BICOL STANDARD, the security guard of the school who was stationed at the annex was already about to leave when he noticed that the fire had already gutted the main building.

Housed in said edifice are the school’s offices of records, accounting, cashier, dental clinic, library, and the principal’s office, among others.

Meanwhile, a teacher who resides near the school said that he saw the flames coming from the right wing of the building.

Nothing was saved from the decades-old building, which was made of wood and light materials.

As of the time of this writing, no estimates as to the cause of the fire or the damages have been released by the Bureau of Fire Protection.

The main building of the Sorsogon National High School had stood in its location since World War II. Since the school was established, it had produced many prominent personalities. (With report from Eddie Ayo Atutubo)

Naga joins Iglesia ni Cristo Worldwide Walk for Yolanda victims

Naga City will take part in Iglesia ni Cristo’s “Worldwide Walk” for typhoons of super typhoon Yolanda today.

In an advisory released yesterday by the Public Safety Office, it was announced that P. Burgos St. and Penafrancia Ave. will be closed because of the activity, which will begin at 7 AM at Plaza Quezon.

Meanwhile, Magsaysay Ave. and Panganiban Drive will temporarily be one-lane roads.

The walkathon will be conducted in 84 other sites in the Philippines, as well sa 55 locations abroad.

Because of the volume of people that will participate, the global walk is expected to break at least two Guinness world records. Among these are Largest Charity Walk (Single Venue) and Largest Charity Walk in 24 Hours (Multiple Venues).

Each participant will be required to pay P250 to join the activity. There will also be no age requirement or limit imposed.


The money gathered from the event will be used to fund the Iglesia ni Cristo’s continuing relief efforts in the typhoon-ravaged areas.

Dr. Modesto Detera has been selected as President of Sorsogon State College.

Detera, who was the former president and professor of Partido State University in Goa, Camarines Sur, was chosen from a group of three aspirants, which included Dr. Erwin Malto of Don Emilio Espinosa Sr. Memorial College of Agriculture and Technology, and Dr. Miguel Guarin of Sorsogon State College Bulan campus.

Bicol-bound bus found loaded with chemicals for shabu manufacture

The police discovered 32 boxes of chemicals used for making shabu in the baggage compartment of an Isarog bus bound for Masbate in the Araneta Center Bus Terminal in Cubao, Quezon City.

The chemicals were contained in a box that were addressed to a person named Garry in Masbate, from a sender named Johnny Lee.

According to a report relayed to BICOL STANDARD, the authorities inspected the bus, after passengers reported a foul smell coming from the leaking package.

Along with the chemicals were an electric burner, charcoal, and other paraphernalia that are believed to be used in concocting the illegal substance.

NAGA CITYMembers of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Camarines Sur, headed by Police Chief Inspector Edgar Rebadomea and Naga City PNP Special Operation Group (SOG) Police Chief Inspector Alex Penafiel raided three drug dens at Sitio Sagrada Familia, formerly known as Isla Sison, barangay Peñafrancia at 1PM today.

The raid was conducted by force of three search warrants, which were issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Pablo Cabillan Formaran III.

One drug den is said to be owned by Arnold Alegre.

The police confiscated from Alegre six plastic sachets of shabu, one pouch of marijuana, and a CCTV set, which was installed at his residence.

The operatives also recovered several items which were reportedly swapped for drugs. Among these items were 20 cellphones, 10 DVD players, a camera, a telescope, 15 wristwatches, and a flat screen television.

The police arrested Alegre, along with eight others, who were identified as: Edgar Daniel Ebianes of Sabang, Calabanga; Alvin Alvarez Villegas, also of Sabang, Calabanga; Raul Allen Brujan Esplana of Bombon; Rey Avicena of Zone 3, San Agustin, Canaman; Juancho Uy Pardo of Concepcion Grande, Naga City; Dino Pelicano of Calauag, Naga City; Christian Lalisan of Ojeda St., Dayangdang; Christian Alegre Borda of Peñafrancia, Naga City.

Another house, which is believed to be owned by Danilo Esplana, was also searched. The police found in said residence two plastic sachets of shabu and P3,640 in cash. Meanwhile, eleven people who were drunk outside Esplana's house were invited by the police for questioning.

The third house raided was one supposedly belonging to Randy Alegre. Eleven plastic sachets of shabu and one pouch of marijuana were found by the police in said location.

The arrested persons are now detained at the Naga City Jail. (With report from Oscar Esmenda)

Naga City joins One Billion Rising for Justice

Naga City joins One Billion Rising for Justice
Nagueños is one with the rest of the world for the One Billion Rising for Justice movement.

At 4PM in Plaza Rizal, people from various parts of the city will respond to the global call to women survivors of violence break the silence and release their stories.

"Billion" in the name of the event represents the United Nations' statistics that one in three women will be raped or beaten in their lifetime, or around a billion.

As with the One Billion Rising event held last year, the gathering features a dance that symbolizes the strength of the masses against violence.

This year, more than 190 cities in the world are joining the movement.

In Bicol, Legazpi City will also participate in the one-day event.
