Typhoon Ruby leaves 1 dead in Bicol

NAGA CITY—The Office of Civil Defense Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Bicol has recorded one fatality due to Typhoon Ruby as of Monday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Justine Canezo, an 18-day-old infant from Iriga City in Camarines Sur. Canezo died due to hypothermia.

Meanwhile, in Sorsogon, the two fishermen who went missing last week were found earlier today.

Aristotle Alfanta and Arles de Mesa, the fishermen, revealed that they ran into engine problems while at sea.

The agency also confirmed that at least seven were injured in Masbate due to the impact of the typhoon.

Before the typhoon hit, officials from the six provinces of Bicol expressed their hope of achieving a zero casualty goal.

OCD Regional Director Raffy Alejandro, it will be recalled, earlier ordered the prepositioning of assets across Bicol to mitigate the impact of the typhoon.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
