Naga City declares state of calamity

NAGA CITY—The Sangguniang Panlungsod has passed a resolution declaring the city under a state of calamity due to Typhoon Ruby, according to the City Events, Protocol and Public Information Office.

Resolution No. 2014-472 was made upon the request of Naga City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council made thru Mayor John G. Bongat.

The declaration was made to: (1) prevent price increase of prime commodities; (2) provide farmers access to calamity insurance and other assistance; (3) provide PAG-IBIG, SSS and GSIS members access to calamity loans; (4) access funds from the national government for rehabilitation, humanitarian assistance, agricultural inputs aid and public health services; (5) access the city's calamity fund for immediate post disaster response activities and replenish used supplies, and (6) serve as basis of barangay governments in the utilization of their respective calamity funds for their post disaster response activities and humanitarian services for their heavily affected residents.

The Office of Civil Defense Bicol recommended earlier that all provinces in the Bicol region declare a state of calamity. Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, Masbate have been placed under such state.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
