Bicolana Jamie Herrell crowned Miss Earth 2014

Jamie Herrell of Placer, Masbate was crowned Miss Earth 2014 in tonight's grand coronation night at the UP Theater in Diliman, Quezon City.

Nineteen-year-old Herrell, who grew up in Placer, but represented Cebu City in the Miss Earth Philippines pageant earlier this year, studies acting at the International Academy for Film and Television in Lapu-lapu City.

Herrell was born in Glendora, east of Los Angeles, California, in the United States.

Her mother, Mary Snow del Rosario, is from Placer, while her father, James Edward Herrell, hails from Seattle, Washington.

In 2013, she represented Placer, Masbate in the Sinulog Festival Queen 2013 competition, in which she was also crowned as the winner.

She was also Miss Mega Cebu 2014 and Miss Lapu-Lapu 2012 1st runner-up.

During tonight's competition, she won three other special awards, including Best in Swimsuit, Miss Earth Hannah's Beach Resort, and Sun for Miss Earth Award.

In her biography, she said that among the environmental cause, she is most passionate about the prevention of animal cruelty. She explained, "I have seen how some people treat animals in a wrong way and I believe animals should be treated with love or at least in a proper manner."

Herrell is not the only MasbateƱa to have won an international beauty title. Bea Rose Santiago of Cataingan, Masbate, won last year's Miss International pageant.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
