Contingency plan up in Albay for possible Mayon eruption

Members of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) and Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) held an emergency meeting today regarding Phivolcs's raising of Mayon's alert status from 2 to 3.

The groups discussed the possible contingency plan to combat the dangers of rockfalls, landslides, volcanic flows, or sudden explosions.

Last night, Phivolcs announced that eruption is possible within weeks if the trend of relatively high unrest continues.

Philvolcs also recommended that the 6-km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) around the volcano and the 7-km Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) on the southeastern flank be enforced to avert untoward incidents.--BICOLSTANDARD.COM
