DSWD Secretary Corazon J. Soliman said the DSWD Field Office in Region 5 (Bicol) has activated its Quick Response Team (QRT) to closely monitor the situation and make the necessary coordination with local officials in preparing for worst-case scenarios.
Soliman earlier emphasized that the first responders during post-disasters are the LGU while DSWD does the augmentation or provision of the necessary support through food and non-food assistance.
The Albay provincial government, under the leadership of Gov. Joey Salceda, already ordered forced evacuation as of Tuesday afternoon of families living within the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) radius of the restive volcano, while assistive evacuation will be implemented within the extended 8- to 10-kilometer extended danger zone (EDZ) radius.
The order to evacuate came after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised the alert status of the restive volcano to Level 3, the first time it reached such status in five years. (PNA)
