Bicol books shine in Nat'l Book Awards 2014

NAGA CITY--The works of Bicolano writers are among the finalists of the National Book Awards 2014.

The list, which was released by the National Book Development Board and the Manila Critics Circle includes Canticos: Apat na Boses by K.S. Cordero (UST Publishing House) for Best Book of Poetry in Bikol; Laan by Allan Popa (De La Salle University Press) and Labi by Kristian Sendon Cordero (Ateneo de Manila University Press) for Best Book of Poetry in Filipino; Drone by Allan Popa (UST Publishing House) for the Phil Lit Arts Council Prize for Best Book of Poetry; Married Women: Short Stories by Maryanne Moll (Ateneo de Naga University Press) for the Cirilo Bautista Prize for Best Book of Short Fiction; Hagong: Mga Osipon, edited by Paz Verdades M. Santos and H. Francisco V. Peñones for the Best Anthology in Bicol; Fish Hair Woman by Merlinda Bobis (Anvil Publishing) for the Juan C. Laya Prize for Best Novel in a Foreign Language; and Ang Lihim ng Ultramar by Rhod V. Nuncio (UST Publishing House) for the Juan C. Laya Prize for Best Novel in Filipino.

For the Premyong Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino para sa Salin at Saliksik sa Wika, the following have been selected as finalists: An Profeta by Wilmer Joseph S. Tria (Ina nin Bikol Foundation); Doros asin mga Anghel: Translations in Bikol of John Donne's Holy Sonnets and Selected Works by Victor Dennis T.
