Shanti Nacion Serrano, who posted photos of the bush fire aerial survey on his Facebook account, reported that some 2,065 to 5,000 families from barangays Poblacion, Morocborocan, SitioAcal, Mananao, Guadalupe, Buenavista, SitioMinto, and San Ramon Batan Island are affected.

The initial Damage and Needs Assessment report indicates that the practice of kaingin possibly caused the fire.

Among the actions recommended to be taken by the authorities are for Rapu-Rapu to declare a State of Calamity, for the local government units to activate a 24-hour operation of the LDRRMC for the required monitoring and preparedness actions, for evacuation sites to be readied, to request the PAF for the availability of Huey 2 with Bumby Bucket, and for continued close monitoring.

Currently assessing the situation are the TOG 5, OCD 5, APSEMO, and LGU Rapu-Rapu.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
