Mayon on alert level 1

MANILA — Alert Level 1 remains in effect as of 8:00 AM, 09 August 2014, which means that it is at abnormal condition, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said this morning.

Further, it announced that Mayon Volcano's seismic network detected two volcanic earthquakes during the past 24-hour observation period due to rain clouds covering the summit.

No crater glow, however, was observed.

As precautionary measure, the NDRRMC strongly advised that the public refrain from entering the 6-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) due to the perennial life-threatening dangers of rockfalls, landslides/avalanches at the middle to upper slope, sudden ash puffs and steam-driven or phreatic eruptions from the summit.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
