Rehab, development of Naga, Bicol International airports urged

Senate President Franklin Drilon today urged the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to expedite the repair, rehabilitation, and development of major airports in the country.

With a proposed budget of Php 13.3 billion, the rehabilitation program intends to “improve the condition of the country’s airport facilities,” Driolon said.

The budget will be included under DOTC’s Php 59 billion budget.

In Bicol, the Naga Airport will receive Php 670 million for rehabilitation and enhancement.

Meanwhile, the Bicol International Airport will be allotted Php 1.55 billion for its development in 2015.

The other airports that will be improved and/or developed under the program are the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Clark Airport, Kalibo Airport, Iloilo International Airport, Busuanga Airport, General Santos Airport, Ozamis Airport, Calbayog Airport, Puerto Princesa City Airport, New Bohol International Airport, and Laguindingan International Airport.

Drilon stressed that airports give visitors their first and last impressions of the country. Thus, the government must ensure that they are efficient and capable.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
