The proposed capital expenditure is much higher than the Department of Budget and Management (DBM)’s recommended subsidy of P374.18 million.
According to Dilay, the DBM’s recommended amount is not in line with the goal of the PNR to improve the Bicol line.
Under their proposed budget, the PNR expects to spend P5.2 billion to rehabilitate the Calamba to Legazpi City line, P3.65 billion to purchase new passenger cars, and the rest to acquire other new equipment.
On top of this, the state-owned rail company is seeking for another P625.8 million to repair the stations, bridges, and railroad tracks.
It will be recalled that last month, Republic Act No. 10638 extended PNR’s charter for another 50 years.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
