2 nuns and 12 children were held hostage by a solider and his companions this afternoon.

The hostage taker introduced himself as Private First Class Licayan of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

According to witnesses, the suspect, who bore a long firearm, and his companions stormed into the Good Shepherd Home in Gov. Forbes Street, San Roque, Legazpi City.

Licayan, through a number of letters, made several demands in exchange for the liberty of his hostages.

Among them are food and a specific order that ABS-CBN reporter Karren Canon be the one to deliver the food to him and his companions.

At 5:20 in the afternoon, police authorities were able to contain the situation and take the suspects into custody.

The children and sisters were left unharmed.

In an interview with DZMM, Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal confirmed that Licayan is a member of the Philippine Army.

He said that Licayan had been in Albay for a disaster risk reduction and management training which ended Monday. However, he was not allowed to go home by his Commanding Officer thereafter because of the typhoon.
