8th Raul Roco Cup slated for August 21-25

NAGA CITY—The 8th Raul Roco Cup: The Bicol Debate Championship will take place on August 21 to 25, 2014, the Universidad de Sta. Isabel Debate Society announced.

Touted as the “biggest and most prestigious debate tournament in Bicol,” the Roco Cup gathers more than 200 participants from across the region annually as it offers fun and exciting activities alongside gruelling debate rounds.

The tournament is open to all high school and college debating institutions in Bicol. The 8th Raul Roco Cup will follow the British Parliamentary format with a tournament cap of 100 teams, an institution cap of 12 teams, and a break cap of 4 teams, Tournament Convenor Khristian Damielle A. Jamer explained in the invitation.

The N-rule adjudication policy will be followed for the College Division. Anyone previously/currently enrolled at of any institution in the Philippines is eligible to compete as an Adjudicator, Jamer added.
This year also sees the addition of two special competitions, the Robredo Cup and the Maogmang Lugar Cup.

To date, the participating institutions in the high school division include Ateneo de Naga University, Aquinas University, Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, La Consolacion College Iriga City, Dominican School of Calabanga, Camarines Sur National High School, Sipocot National High School, Universidad de Sta. Isabel, Naga Hope Christian School, and Naga College Foundation. The college division, on the other hand, includes Ateneo de Naga University, Aquinas University, Bicol University, Camarines Norte State College, Sorsogon State College, Universidad de Sta. Isabel, University of Nueva Caceres, Partido State University, and Naga College Foundation.
