Reports reaching BICOL STANDARD say that a controversy erupted between the local police force and town mayor Ben Espiloy who allegedly ordered the disconnection of the power supply of the police station.
The same reports stated that Espiloy requested that a detainee, who is facing charges for the violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act be allowed to occupy an airconditioned room inside the police station, instead of staying in the detention cell.
At first, the local police allowed the detainee to spend a night in said airconditioned room. However, the following day, they decided to transfer him to the regular detention cell.
Allegedly, the town executive objected to the transfer. The mayor reasoned out that since the municipal government is the one paying for the electricity, his order should not be ignored.
Feeling insulted by the mayor’s directive, Police Senior Inspector Ignacio D. Suarilla III instead decided to move his office to a vacant building owned by the PNP.
Meantime, the local police of the town relayed this conflict to the PNP Regional Office for guidance.
Mayor Espiloy could not be contacted for his comment as of press time.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
