DARAGA, ALBAY—A mother and a son had an unexpected reunion at the District Office of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) here.
The mother, a 60-year-old woman identified as Adela Almaida, was apprehended when she allegedly tried to spirit what was believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu into the District Jail.
A resident of P3 Barangay Rawis, Legazpi City, Almaida went to the jail to bring food for her son, who is detained in the facility.
During the mandatory inspection, however, Jail Officer I Marcelino Balonso spotted a piece of aluminum foil in the package that Almaida brought.
He acted on his suspicion by requiring the suspect to transfer the food to another container.
It was then discovered that the container had 14 pieces of heat-sealed sachets of a substance believed to be shabu, among other drug paraphernalia.
The suspect is now in the custody of the BJMP. She is facing a criminal complaint for violating Republic Act 7165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
