Ex-San Fernando, Masbate municipal councilor collared in buy-bust operation

MASBATE—A former member of the Sangguniang Bayan of San Fernando town was apprehended by joint forces of Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB), Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB-5) and Masbate Provincial Public Safety Company (MPPSC) in a buy-bust operation yesterday at Barangay Ibingay, Masbate City.

The suspect was identified as Clark Abapo y Catonjos, 37, married, jobless, and a resident of Purok 2, Barangay Nursery, Masbate City.

Said suspect was inside his Toyota Hilux when police recovered from his possession a large heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing 4.5 grams of white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu in exchange for marked money.

The report added that Abapo resisted the arrest. He fired what is believed to be a 9 mm caliber revolver at the approaching arresting officers. The officers returned fire, targeting the tires to neutralize the vehicle.

Trying to evade the arrest, the suspect reportedly wrestled with the poseur-buyer PO1 Zaldy R. Ramo Jr., and eventually crashed his vehicle against a parked tricycle and a wall of a residence.
The police then swooped down on the suspect. They confiscated several heat-sealed sachets containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, a digital weighing scale, a number of improvised tooters, a cellphone, a lighter, a wooden tooter with residue of what is believed to be marijuana, a wallet and some coin purses.

Said items were seized, inventoried and sealed in the presence of the following witnesses: Barangay Kagawad Jinky A. Alcovindas and Gabriel A. Almosara, both of Brgy. Ibingay, Masbate City; Danny V. Liao, DOJ Respresentative; and Jewner E. Magbojos, Media Representative.
Meanwhile, the suspect was brought to Masbate City Police Office, and was referred to Masbate City Health Office for medical examination.

Appropriate charges are now being prepared for filing against the suspect.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
