“I am voluntarily submitting myself to the preventive suspension order for a period of ninety (90) days effective June 1, 2014 until August 29, 2014.”

This is the gist of the letter that was personally handed by Sorsogon Governor Raul R. Lee to Secretary of Interior and Local Government Mar Roxas during the latter’s visit to Legazpi City the other day regarding Lee’s preventive suspension.
The letter narrates:
“This is relative to Criminal Case No. SB-11-Crm-0036 to 0039 for Violation of Sec 3(e) and (g), Republic Act No. 3019, as amended, entitled People of the Philippines vs. Raul R. Lee, et al., pending before the First Division, Sandiganbayan.
The Sandiganbayan in its Resolution dated January 14, 2014 issued a Preventive Suspension Order for a period of ninety (90) days against the undersigned. The dispositive portion of which states as follows, to wit:
‘WHEREFORE, premises considered, accused RAUL R. LEE’s second Motion to Quash, or to dismiss the above-captioned case, is DENIED, and Plaintiff’s Motion to Suspend Accused pendent lite is hereby GRANTED. The Court hereby orders the suspension pendent lite of accused RAUL R. LEE from his position as governor of the Province of Sorsogon, and from any public office he may now or hereafter be holding, for a period of ninety (90) days effective upon notice.
Let a copy of this Resolution be furnished the Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), who is directed to implement this Order, upon notice of finality of this ruling.’
“In its Resolution dated April 29, 2014, the Sandiganbayan denied our Motion for Reconsideration.”
Meanwhile, Governor Lee requested Roxas that a corresponding report by the DILG be submitted to the Sandiganbayan relative to Lee’s compliance with the preventive suspension order.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
