BIR Bicol eyes collecting almost 8B in taxes

LEGAZPI CITY—The Bureau of Internal Revenue aims to collect P7.87 billion of regional revenue from Bicol, said BIR Regional Director Esmeralda Tabule.

Said amount would be the region’s target as the nation aims to gather as much as P1.4 trillion in taxes this year.

Tabule earlier reminded taxpayers to beat the April 15 deadline to avoid incurring penalties and the inconvenience of the last-minute rush.

This year, Tabule said, BIR is promoting promote the Mobile Revenue Collection Officers System, in which taxpayers may pay at accredited agent banks, or via the online-based electronic filing and payment system (eFPS).

Among the accredited agent banks are Bank of Commerce, Bank of Philippine Islands, China Banking Corporation, Development Bank of the Philippines, Land Bank of the Philippines, Metrobank, Philippine National Bank, Philippine Veterans Bank, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation, Unionbank, and United Coconut Planters Bank.

BIR is also harnessing the power of social media, websites such as, print, outdoor, radio and television advertisements to inform the public on the registration, filing, and payment processes.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
