Bicol to host 3 int’l tourism confabs in May

LEGAZPI CITY—Bicol plays host to three international tourism events this coming month of May. The region was selected by the United Nation’s World Tourism Organization to be the venue of three conferences.

Said events include the 40th Meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Three National Tourism Organizations on May 15 to 17; the 26th Joint Meeting of the UN World Tourism Organization Commissions for East Asia and the Pacific and South Asia on May 18; and the United Nation’s World Tourism Organization – Association of Southeast Asian Nations (UNWTO-ASEAN) Conference on Tourism and Climate Change on May 19-20.

Said events will be held in Albay, where the local government has partnered with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the ASEAN.

Meanwhile, the tourism conventions also coincide with the Philippines-US Balikatan Exercise 2014 which is set to begin here tomorrow, April 21.

It is estimated that some 1,000 officials from 21 countries in the continent will participate in the tourism events.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
