PNP cuffs Sorsoganon illegal recruiter

An illegal recruiter from Pabreka, Sorsogon was arrested in Tagaytay City, Cavite for allegedly defrauding three people.

In an entrapment operation, Romeo Anonuevo Gerolia, 33 years old, and presently residing in Purok 4, Bgy. Balibago, Sta. Rosa City, Laguna was arrested by elements of Cavite PNP.

His victims were identified as Javier Bayot Opo, 50, of Bgy. Maitim 2nd, Central Tagaytay City; Rey Gerona Abano, 31, of Purok 162, Bgy. San Jose, Tagaytay City and Rene Etcoy Cabiles, 34, also of Purok 162, Bgy. San Jose, Tagaytay City .

The suspect reportedly told the victims that he was working at a travel agency called LWV Corporation.

Promising the victims jobs in Saudi Arabia, the suspect collected placement fees from the suspects.

However, it was discovered that the suspect was not affiliated with said travel agency.

The authorities have already filed a complaint for illegal recruitment against the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) reminded the public to be cautious about said job offers.

Just this week, the agency launched a mobile app where people can check whether a recruiter is licensed, suspended, or removed from the list. The same information may be accessed via POEA's official website.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
