Abraham B. Sta Rita, alias Tapul, 28 years old, single and a resident of Brgy. Mabuhay, Pio V. Corpuz, the suspect in this complaint, was collared by police authorities in an entrapment operation.

The reports reveal that Danilo Despi y Estipona, Provincial Schools Superintendent has been receiving text messages from the suspect, demanding P5,000 in cash, and threatening him bodily harm if he fails to give said amount. The suspect also warned that he would destroy DepEd property, including the offices and service vehicle, if the superintendent would not give in to the demands.

Following the instruction of the police authorities, DepEd Masbate’s official driver was sent to deliver P3,000 marked money to Sta. Rita. When the amount was handed to the alleged extortionist, police officers immediately stepped in to make the arrest.

Apart from the marked money, the police also recovered the following items from the suspect: two pieces of long alloy magazine for an M-16 armalite rifle; six pieces of short alloy magazine for a rifle same calibre, and a Nokia 1208 cell phone.

When Sta. Rita was brought to the police station for further questioning, it was discovered that he had pending warrants of arrest from the Regional Trial Court.

Sta. Rita, who is considered to be the number 4 most wanted person in the town of Esperanza, is facing charges for murder, frustrated murder, and carnapping, apart from the new complaints for robbery-extortion and illegal possession of ammunition.
