Riding-in-tandem suspects steal P1.7M from LGU employee

MASBATE—Two riding-in-tandem suspects stole P1.7 million from the disbursing officer of Claveria town here yesterday.

The victim was identified as Elieser Alfornon y Reulan, 44 years old, and a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Claveria.

Police Chief Inspector Edwin Ador said that the victim withdrew P1.7 million from the Development Bank of the Philippines branch along corner Rosero and Quezon St. in Masbate City.

The money was supposed to be the salary of the employees of the local government unit of Claveria.

He hired a tricycle from Quezon St. going to Masbate City Fish Port. However, when the vehicle reached Corpus St. in Barangay Centro, two suspects who were riding a black Motorstar motorcycle suddently blocked the tricycle.

One of the suspects, who was wearing a white shirt, a brown jacket, and a full-faced helmet shot the victim's left arm and neck. He also took the victim's backpack, which contained the P1.7 million.

The victim sustained injuries and was rushed to the Masbate Provincial Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the suspects were able to escape.

The initial investigation reveals that the suspects possibly followed the victim from the bank where the money was withdrawn.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
