Team Iriga named Batang Pinoy National Cheerdance champ

Team Iriga, represented by Zeferino Arroyo High School, bagged the gold medal in the Batang Pinoy National Cheerdance Competition earlier this week in the University of Saint La Salle, Bacolod City.

Prior to winning the national competition, the school from San Agustin, Iriga also emerged champion in last year's Regional Inter-High School Cheer and Dance Competition in the city of Naga.

Team Iriga was coached by Cloyd M. Lagyap and trained by Rodrigo C. Salando Jr. The same also received support from Zeferino Arroyo High School principal Mrs. Abecinia P. Dacara, Iriga City Mayor Ronald Felix Y. Alfelor and former mayor Madelaine Alfelor-Guzman.

The National Cheerdance Competition is part of Batang Pinoy 2013, a series of games for the youth for children below 15 years old. Said sporting activity was organized by the Philippine Sports Commission, the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Department of Education.

Among the events in the competition are archery, badminton, basketball, chess, cycling, gymnastics, futsal, muay thai, shooting, sepak takraw, triathlon and wushu.

Batang Pinoy 2013 was originally scheduled late last year, but was moved because of typhoon Yolanda. (With report from Cloyd M. Lagyap)
