NAGA CITYPolice in this city captured a man who allegedly pretended to be a customer but turned out to be a holdupper instead.

According to the initial investigation, the suspect, who was identified as Romeo Galvez y Romobio, went to the Shell gasoline station along Maharlika Highway corner Villa Concepcion Subdivision, barangay Concepcion Pequena, last night.

The 26-year-old suspect from Zone 3, Capocnasan, Milaor, had with him two empty containers, which he asked to be filled with gasoline.

When it was time for him to pay, however, the suspect poked a pistol at the gas station attendant and declared a holdup.

He warned the gasoline boy, who was identified as Bien Mark Namia, to keep quiet, and just give him the cash that he needed.

Namia, however, explained that he only had around P600, because the gas station had already submitted its earnings to the owner the previous day.

The suspect nonetheless took the P600 and fled.

The gasoline attendant immediately sought for the help of three barangay tanods, who had been roving in the area at that time.

The tanods were Jun Bocacao, Julio Sto. Domingo, Joseph Arsera, and Manolo Torejo.

Shortly after, said tanods chanced upon a man who was acting suspiciously at the back of the church.

The man tried to run away when he saw the approaching tanods, but was eventually cornered and collared.

Found in his possession were a .38 caliber pistol, and some bills and coins amounting to around P600.

The man reasoned that the gun was for his personal protection.

Nevertheless, the tanods brought the man to the police station, where he was positively identified by the gasoline attendant as the same person who robbed him.

According to the PNP, complaints for the violation of the Revised Penal Code and the law against illegal possession of firearms will be filed against the suspect.

The suspect is now detained at the police station.

Meanwhile, the tanods who apprehended the suspect were lauded by barangay captain Jun Panis (With report from Oscar Esmenda/Ruel Saldico).
