DOLE pours "meeehllions" into CSur goat project

Goat-raising

PILI, CSUR  The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office V brought some 100 goats here last week as part of their initiative to encourage goat-raising.

Each goat costs around P2,000 to P3,000.

The goats were personally handed by DOLE Bicol Assistant Regional Director Exequiel Ronie A. Guzman to 50 beneficiaries at the LGU Pili grounds.

Said beneficiaries are sugar workers.

DOLE hopes that the distribution of the goats will allow the sugar workers to have an alternative livelihood.

"The more goats they breed, the more income they will have. Who know? If they breed continuously, we may be looking at a future ranchero in Bicol,” ARD Guzman said.

Each beneficiary received two goats, a male and a female.

These goats, ARD Guzman said, were specifically chosen by their supplier for breeding purposes.

Guzman also announced that this was only the first batch of their goat dispersal in the municipality.

The colder season, he explained, prevented their supplier from delivering the entire herd at once.

He assured the locals, however, that 300 more goats would be arriving in the coming months. (Raymond Escalante/DOLE Regional Office V)
