PILI, CSUR – “There is no fish kill, nor red tide problem in Region 5."

This was the statement issued by Burearu of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Director Dennis del Socorro today in an interview with BICOL STANDARD.

Dir. Del Socorro explained that their office had been monitoring Buhi and Bato lakes these past few days due to the erratic temperature that may affect the fish cage industry in these towns.

“We are very much concerned with this problem because we have encountered fish kill problems in the past years,” said del Socorro.

Meanwhile, the price of tilapia in the market is stable, as the supply is normal.

This information was released by the BFAR regional office, as reports that fish kill problems have occurred again at Taal Lake in Batangas.

It will be recalled that BFAR (Region 4-A) over the weekend issued a statement that around 120 tons or P10.5 million worth of tilapia and bangus were lost as fish kill again surfaced in said body of water.

Furthermore, Dir. del Soccoro clarified that they have not encountered a red tide problem in the areas of Sorsogon and Masbate.
