Casureco II Consumer Rights Watch Calls for Consumers’ Empowerment

January 10, 2014

In a recent info, power suppliers yet again threaten to cut power in Casureco 2 on January 27, 2014 [Tuesday], should consumers fail to pay its electric dues, management has amassed.

In response to this rather unwarranted condition set forth by CASURECO Consumer GROUP is organized as an expression of member consumers’ decisiveness to protect their interest in the electric cooperative which they rightfully own. This movement is also to show the consumers disgust on the current management which evidently disappoints them over and over again. Casureco need not be reminded that they are answerable to the member consumers, and that their authority over the management is coming from the people whom they should have been serving.

The Founding Chairman of the VACC, Dante Jimenez, which also represents the consumer group of MARINERS’ POLYTECHNIC COLLEGES FOUNDATION, together with other consumer organizations is contemplating on filing appropriate charges against the Cooperative should this happen as this will be in violation of RA 9163, otherwise known as the EPIRA Law of 2001 as further underscored in the Department of Energy [DOE] Circular No. 2003-12-011, should they go for the power cut-off. The said act specifically declared that it shall be the policy of the State, among others to: [1] ensure the quality, reliability, SECURITY and AFFORDABILITY of the supply of electric power, and [2] protect the public interest as it is affected by the rates and services of electric utilities and other providers of electric power.

Jimenez urges the consumers to remain watchful as regard this issue that will have a definite effect on the lives of ordinary consumers.
