National Bible Week 2014
The provincial government of Catanduanes in cooperation with the various religious groups in the province is celebrating National Bible Week.

The activity began last Monday, January 20, and ends tonight.

The aim of National Bible Week is to strengthen the Provincial Moral Recovery Program (MRP). Catanduanes Governor Araceli B. Wong explained to the media that the MRP is national campaign for moral renewal with a vision of helping the Filipino nation to become God-centered, people-empowered, prosperous national community living in unity, justice, freedom, love and peace governed by a visionary government that is democratic, graft-free, transparent and self-corrective with a community of civil and military servants who are professional, competent, disciplined and trustworthy.

Wong said that the Bible Week introduces Catandunganons to the Bible’s transforming power.

In connection with this, masses were simultaneously celebrated in all parishes throughout the Diocese of Virac earlier this week. These were followed by a pastor’s conference of Catanduanes for Jesus Movement (CJM) at Capitol Dome.

A Bible Fun Run was also conducted today. It took place from the Catanduanes State University to the Capitol Grounds. Employees of local and national agencies, the Diocese of Virac, Catanduanes for Jesus Movement, El Shaddai, Catanduanes State University, TESDA, DepEd, NP, People’s Organizations, Kabalikat Civicom and other non-government organizations in the island participated in the event.

The province also conducted a convention on the MRP. This was held at the Provincial Capitol Dome.

Following the activity was a Torch Parade from Virac Airport to Virac Town Plaza.

The highlight of the occasion was the Ceremonial Installation of the Bible and Provincial Dedication Marker which was held late this afternoon.

The event was officiated by Bishop Manolo A. De Los Santos, H.E. Bishop Arturo Bastes of Philippine Bible Society, Dr. Nora G. Lucero of PBS/United Bible Societies, Pastor Dindo Lllamas of CJM and Pastor Ronald B. Aznar of El Shaddai.

A whole night of praise and worship at Virac Town Plaza tonight culminates the celebration.

The country has been celebrating NBW and National Bible Sunday annually since former President Ferdinand E. Marcos signed Presidential Proclamation No. 2242 on November 19, 1982. Said proclamation declared that “it is fitting and proper that national attention be focused on the important role being played by reading and study of the Bible in molding the moral fiber of our society.” (MAL/EAB-PIA/Catanduanes)
