The local government of Legazpi commemorated the 114th Anniversary of the battle of Legazpi yesterday at the monument to the bloodshed in the heart of the city's commercial area.

The local chief executive, Mayor Noel Rosal, led the commemoration rites. The activity was attended by city officials, students, war veterans and personnel from Naval Forces Southern Luzon and Police Regional Office 5.

Mayor Rosal and Police Chief Supt Victor P. Deona, head of Police Regional Office 5, led the wreath-laying ceremony in front of the Battle of Legazpi Monument.

This was followed by a reenactment of the said battle by a group of students from Pag-Asa National High School of Rawis, Legazpi City.

They showed to the public how the brave Bicolanos fought against thousands of Americans with artilleries and guns using only bolos and trenches as their primary means of defense.

The Naval Forces of Southern Luzon (NAVFORSOL), headed by LTJG Cariaga PN, also expressed their support for the activity by provided honor company and color guards during the wreath-laying activity. Likewise, the Command lent a rubber boat to the students of Pag-Asa National High School that the group used in the reenactment. (NAVFORSOL)
